Back pain is a common discomfort among us all. Statistics show that four out of five adults will have back pain at some point in their life. The back is a very complex part of our body and therefore, many structures can cause discomfort if they are injured or affected.

The most common cause of back pain is due to strains and sprains. This can happen when an unexpected twist or pull is applied on the back. This will create tears in the muscle causing what is called a muscular strain. Muscular strain is usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and muscle spasm. A sprain is something that can also accompany a strain and this is caused when a ligament is overstretched beyond their natural capacity and in some cases can cause a tear in the ligament. These types of injuries are most present after severe falls or motor vehicle accidents.

Other conditions causing back pain:

  • Disc Injury
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Osteoarthritis of the spine
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Fractures of the Lumbar Spine
  • Pregnancy
  • Fibromyalga
