Why see a Chiropractor Instead of a Physical Therapist

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 05 2009 | Car Accident Doctor, Utah Chiropractic|American Fork

Physical therapy focuses on the strengthening of your muscles. If your have been in a automobile accident you would want to make sure that the bones and discs of your spine are in place before you begin to build muscle around them. As you may already know the body naturally heals itself.  The body heals itself because it has direct communication with with tissue, cells, muscles, and organs throughout the body. Messages are communicated back and forth through the central nervous system.  If that communication pathway is disrupted the body will cease to perform the way it was intended too.

You may be experiencing a very slow recovery from your accident but, not feel pain in your back.  Most of our patients don’t realize how important the health of their spine is to their overall wellness.  Chiropractic care along with massage therapy will first and foremost ensure that your back problems are gone before building more muscles around your spine to guarantee you the best health possible.

Pleasant Grove Auto Injury Doctor, Nate Miller D.C. of the Spinal Rehab of North County, focuses on the complete rahabilitation of your spine.  To get a free massage and consultation contact us today.

How Serious Is Whiplash?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Sep 07 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many of our patients underestimate the seriousness of whiplash. Whiplash can be caused by a couple of things but the most prevalent cause we see is car accidents.  When two cars collide the impact of the collision forces the neck either backwards or forwards and overextends the neck.  As the neck comes back into normal position the muscles immediately stiffen in order to keep better balance of the head.

Whiplash can damage or tear neck muscles and bones leading to neurological problems, and bone fractures or dislocations.  Many people assume that the pain they experience anywhere in their body is not directly related to the accident, that it may be caused from anxiety, adrenaline, intense crying, and stress caused by the accident. However it is important to realize that the spine is the place that houses your central nervous system. Due to this fact if there is damage to the nervous system due to over extension of the neck, the injury could be manifesting itself in the form of pain elsewhere in your body.

Whiplash injuries are feasible at 5 mph.  This is a real injury and symptoms and begin to manifest themselves from a few hours after the accident to months after.  If you or a loved has been in a car accident and suspect a whiplash injury, don’t wait until the situation becomes very aggravated to seek help.  Pleasant Grove auto injury doctor, Nate Miller, specializes in working with injuries incurred through car accidents.  For a free  same day massage and consultation call (801) 492-9300.

Medical help when you need it most!

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Sep 05 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many people find themselves in a car accident with serious injuries and wonder how they are going to pay for the medical care they need.  What many people don’t know is that Utah is a “no fault” state.  “No fault” means that every driver on the road is required to carry insurance that covers your medical treatment even if you caused the accident.  This insurance is called PIP insurance or Personal Injury Protection Insurance.

“No Fault” was passed into Utah law because to often accident victims were waiting for the faulted drivers insurance to accept liability to begin treatment.  Accident injuries are too serious to wait for insurance bureaucracy to give the o.k. In order to provide means for immediate medical treatment all auto insurance companies are required to have PIP Insurance that covers a minimum of $3,000 medical care.

Worried about soaring premiums? Rest at ease!  The faulted drivers insurance, upon accepting liability, will reimburse the costs incurred by your insurance from your injuries and premiums will remain unaffected.

If you or a loved one has sustained injuries in a car accident don’t wait any longer to get the medical help you need. Dr. Nate Miller, of Spinal Rehab of North County, is an experienced in how to best help accident victims get back to where they were before the accident.  Call today to get a free massage and consultation. Four Stages of Chiropractic Care

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 31 2008 | Chiropractic Care

There are four stages of Chiropractic Care. The first is Relief Care, the second is Corrective Care followed by Stabilization Care and finally, Wellness Care. Our goal is to help you understand how these four stages of care can help you to maintain a pain free life.

The first Stage is Relief Care. The primary goal of relief care is to relieve your symptoms. Just an Orthodontist applies braces to correct misaligned teeth, the Chiropractor applies gentle, hands-on adjustments to correct a subluxation.

An Orthodontist must tighten braces on a weekly basis when they are first applied to straighten teeth. The component of time is also important i n Chiropractic care to correct your spine. A chiropractor does not use wire braces, but applies hand-on adjustments to reposition the vertebra. During this phase of care, your visits are spaced 24 to 72 hours apart until your correction begins to take hold.

Relief care includes the application of spinal adjustments and supportive physiotherapy. Periodic care includes the application of spinal adjustments and supportive pshusiotherapy. Periodic check ups will be performed to measure your progress and you will be taught a home exercise program.

The second stage of chiropractic care is Corrective Care. The goal of corrective care is to complete the correction begun in your Relief phase of care. As your correction begins to take hold, the time between your visits can be increased. Discontinuing care during the corrective phase of care would be like the Orthodontist removing braces when the correction is half way completed. The teeth would return to their original position. Corrective visits are spaced three days apart.

Corrective care includes the application of spinal adjustments and the instruction of new excersises to supplement your home exercise program. Periodic check-ups will be performed to monitor your progress.

The third stage is Stabilization. The goal of Stabilization is to stabilize the muscles and ligaments that support your spine to decrease the likelihood that your original problem will return. In addition to your spinal adjustments, a program of stabilization exercises will be taught. A comparative X-ray study will be performed to measure progress. Stabilization visits are spaced 1-2 weeks apart.

The fourth and final stage is Wellness Care. The goal of Wellness care is to promote the optimum function of your nervous system. Periodic check-ups and spinal adjustments are performed. This phase of care can be thought of as going to a dentist for a periodic check- ups to maintain the health of teeth or wearing a retainer to maintain the corrections made by the Orthodontist. Wellness cares is vital to avoid future spinal degeneration and to help reach your highest level of health and vitality.

How Can Chiropractic Care Benefit Pregnant Women?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 22 2008 | Chiropractic Care

There are many ways in which if you are pregnant you can benefit from Chiropractic Care. Our goals as a Chiropractic office for you are to ease areas of discomfort and promote a more stable pelvis. W will assess your spine and pelvic joints to see if there are certain areas that are not moving as easily as they could or should be.

In order to help you better understand how chiropractic work can help you let us explain how your pelvis works. The pelvis is essentially a ring made up of four bones. These four bones are held together by many ligaments and connective tissue. Relaxin, the hormone released during pregnancy, is released in the body from early on in the pregnancy to soften these ligaments and allow better passage of the baby during labour and birth. However what can happen later on in the pregnancy is that the ligaments overstretch. The Sacroiliac joints (where the sacrum meets the pelvis) can become too movable making walking quite difficult. A Chiropractic adjustment will allow the sacroiliac joints to move in a normal position helping pregnant women to walk more easily. During this adjustment the Chiropractor will use techniques that avoid unneeded pressure on the abdomen.

Some of the potential benefits of Chiropractic Care on Pregnant Women Include:

  • Maintaining a Healthier Pregnancy
  • Controlling Nausea Symptoms
  • Reducing time of Labour and Delivery
  • Relieving back, neck or joint pain
  • helps to prevent a possible cesarean section

Here at Spinal Rehab of North County, we are commited to helping you maintain a healthier pregnancy. Call us today to schedule your first appointment with us and begin to experince the benefits of Chiropractic Care.
