Did you know that Utah is a no fault state? “No Fault” means that every driver with auto insurance is required to carry insurance that covers your medical treatment even if you caused the accident. This insurance is commonly referred to as P.I.P. insurance or Personal Injury Protection Insurance.

“No Fault” law was passed into Utah legislation because too many accident victims were laying in the hospital helpless when the at fault drivers insurance wouldn’t accept liability. If you’ve been in an accident you know that getting an insurance company to accept liability can be a battle and damage done to the body needs immediately attention regardless of whose fault it was.

In order to prevent these kind of dire circumstances Utah Law requires everyone who has insurance to carry PIP insurance which starts at $3,000 minimum coverage. PIP coverage can range from increments of $3,000, $5,000, $10,000, all the way up to $100,000. And no need to worry about premiums because when the at fault drivers insurance accepts liability it will reimburse your auto insurance for the expenditures made keeping your premiums from going up.

If you or a loved one has sustained injuries in a car accident don’t wait any longer to get the medical help you need. Dr. Nate Miller, of Spinal Rehab of North County, is an experienced in how to best help accident victims get back to where they were before the accident.  Call today to get a free massage and consultation. What do medical experts have to say on Chiropractic?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Nov 23 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Did you know that back pain is the number one cause of missed work in America? The annual cost usually lies around $15 billion dollars a year to resolve. It’s the 3rd most expensive disorder, after heart disease and cancer. Although it’s not an outbreak of some viral disease it is a serious enough problem that it deserves a second glance. That’s what congress thought when it saw this recent study.

Niteesh Choudhry, MD,PhD, from Harvard Medical School, and Arnold Milstein, MD, from Mercer Health Benefits, two distinguished, globally renowned medical researchers, found that “in combination with existing US studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, chiropractic care for the treatment of low back and neck pain is likely to achieve equal or better health outcomes at a cost that compares very favorable to most therapies that are routinely covered in US health benefits plans.”

As you probably already know Chiropractic care isn’t covered in most health insurance policies, but no one really understands why since the pandemic of back problems continues to plague America. Due to this research each member of the National Congress received a copy to consider as the Public Health Care debate rages on. The study has had such an impact that many are reporting that we may see chiropractic care become a mandatory part of health insurance. Now that medical experts have spoken on the most effective care for back and neck pain, if you or a loved one is experiencing symptoms of low back or neck pain don’t wait, contact Chiropractic Specialist, Dr. Nate Miller, to start feeling better today.

What are the most common causes of back pain?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Nov 18 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Back pain is a common discomfort among us all. Statistics show that four out of five adults will have back pain at some point in their life. The back is a very complex part of our body and therefore, many structures can cause discomfort if they are injured or affected.

The most common cause of back pain is due to strains and sprains. This can happen when an unexpected twist or pull is applied on the back. This will create tears in the muscle causing what is called a muscular strain. Muscular strain is usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and muscle spasm. A sprain is something that can also accompany a strain and this is caused when a ligament is overstretched beyond their natural capacity and in some cases can cause a tear in the ligament. These types of injuries are most present after severe falls or motor vehicle accidents.

Other conditions causing back pain:

  • Disc Injury
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Osteoarthritis of the spine
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Fractures of the Lumbar Spine
  • Pregnancy
  • Fibromyalga

Accident Near Utah Lake

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Nov 11 2009 | Chiropractic Care

The Salt Lake Tribune reports a tragic accident today close to Utah Lake on State Road 68. At about 10:30 a.m. a Nissan headed north, endeavoring to pass a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer, had a head on collision with a Pontiac as it was passing in the southbound lane. The driver was killed and a female passenger was seriously injured.

The types of injuries that can be sustained in this type of an accident are innumerable and range from a broken neck and back to serious brain damage. In 2008 alone the N.H.T.S.A. reported around 16,000 accidents a day and half of those accidents resulted in serious injuries. One of the chief injuries sustained nationally is Subluxation.

Subluxation comes from two latin words, luxare meaning to dislocate and sub which means somewhat or slightly. Sublaxation by definition then is a dislocation or misalignment in the spinal column causing biomechanical malfunction. These misalignments  in the spine can irritate nerve roots and the blood vessels that branch off from the spinal cord between each of the vertebrae.  These irritations translate into pain and dysfunction of the muscles, lymphatic and organ tissue, as well as erroneous messages being sent back and forth between the nerves and the brain.

Subluxation can be caused by many things that range from a fall, an injury, a sudden jar, or trauma.  Other causes include sleeping funny, poor posture, work hazards, lifting incorrectly, obesity, lack of exercise, and stress. If you or a loved one has experienced a car accident or a fall you need to contact a chiropractic specialist. Dr. Nate Miller of Spinal Rehab of North County specializes in helping rehabilitate the spine so you can get back to a normal life. Whiplash?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Nov 04 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many people wonder whether whiplash is one of those mythological injuries that chiropractors make up to bring business into their offices?  But, for anyone who has actually experienced it, knows for himself that whiplash is no myth.  Whiplash can result from a number of situations, but the most common are car accidents.

When one car smashes into another the force of impact jolts the head forward and subsequently the neck.  In an attempt to keep the head from being severed from the body, the muscles in neck contract to maintain a stable base the head can rely on.  The shear force or ever repeated number of impacts can cause breaks, sprains, and tears in the vertebrae passing through the neck to the brain.  If not treated these injuries can become very serious and lead to permanent damage that will effect the quality of living for the rest of your life.

Symptoms can manifest themselves anywhere from seconds to months after the injury.  If your or a loved one has been in a Utah car accident contact Pleasant Grove Car Accident Physician, Dr. Nate Miller to find out what kind of injury you have sustained and what you can do about it.

What is Chiropractic?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Nov 02 2009 | Pleasant Grove Chiropractic

KSL News reports that this morning on I-15 around American Fork, just past exit 276 two cars collided. The collision caused one of the vehicles to hit a wall and then roll. Two people were trapped inside the rolled car and were transported to the nearest hospital. They are now reported to be in stable condition and expected to recover. The driver of the other car was not seriously injured.

So, if you were in this accident what would the next step be? What kind of treatment would you need to totally rehabilitate your body? Besides the possible surgery and pain medication you are eventually going to want to correct the root of the symptoms that cause your body pain and frustration. In a car accident the impact of collision jolts the neck, back, and head out of their normal positions and can cause sprains, rips, tears and breaks in the bones and muscle tissue.

It is a scientific fact that your body is self-regulated, self-healed, and controlled by the brain and nerves. The spine or vertebrae houses the nervous system. If for any reason it becomes misaligned or out of place it causes malfunction in the body’s ability to heal. If the brain can’t communicate with the nerves, it doesn’t know where the problems are and can’t send messages back to respond to damage. Chiropractic is a natural way to help the body do what it does best, heal!

If you’ve been in a car accident recently or in the past few months your next step is to get to a chiropractor. We want to make sure that your body has all the tools it needs to completely return to where it was before your accident. For your free exam and x-ray contact Pleasant Grove auto accident physician, Dr. Nate Miller today.

Winter’s Just around the Corner

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 28 2009 | Chiropractic Care

With the seasons changing it is important to keep a constant look out for ice. Just today the Deseret News reported 6 accidents on a 3 mile stretch within 3 hours of each other. Salt Lake County Sherriff Lt. Jason says, “The problem is the weather, people are just driving too fast and can’t see icy patches.”

The best way to treat an injury is to keep it from happening. So, we have 10 Safety tips we would like to offer to help keep you safe.

1.  Check to make sure that you have adequate snow traction

2. Replace windshield wiper blades if necessary

3. Run the air conditioner to remove condensation and frost from window

4. Check your lights

5. Learn how to most effectively use your brakes before an emergency

6. Watch carefully for black ice

7. Remember the tough spots so you can change your course if necessary

8. If a slick section in a turn causes your front tires to lose grip don’t keep turning the wheel

9. Make sure that your back tires have as much tread as your front tires

10. All wheel drive and electronic stability control can get you into trouble by offering a false sense of security. Don’t let these trick you into overestimating the available traction.

How to reduce your child’s risk of injury by 45%

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 26 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many parents that come into our clinic often say they can deal with their injuries but they want to know if we have any suggestions on how to protect their small children from car accident injuries. The CBS News recently published an article about child car safety. They report that the results of new data analysis show that children in belt-positioning booster seats were 45 percent less likely to sustain injuries in a crash than were children using only standard vehicle seat belts.

The study spanned about 35,000 car accidents where one or more children were injured. Children in side-impact crashes benefited most when booster seats were used: risk of injury was reduced 68 percent for near-side impacts, and 82% for far-side impacts. Head injuries accounted for approximately 65 percent of all injuries, regardless of the type of restraint used. Injured children in booster seats most commonly received face and lower extremity injuries (9 percent and 8 percent, respectively), with a notable absence of abdominal injuries. (Read More)
