Accident Near Utah Lake
The Salt Lake Tribune reports a tragic accident today close to Utah Lake on State Road 68. At about 10:30 a.m. a Nissan headed north, endeavoring to pass a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer, had a head on collision with a Pontiac as it was passing in the southbound lane. The driver was killed and a female passenger was seriously injured.
The types of injuries that can be sustained in this type of an accident are innumerable and range from a broken neck and back to serious brain damage. In 2008 alone the N.H.T.S.A. reported around 16,000 accidents a day and half of those accidents resulted in serious injuries. One of the chief injuries sustained nationally is Subluxation.
Subluxation comes from two latin words, luxare meaning to dislocate and sub which means somewhat or slightly. Sublaxation by definition then is a dislocation or misalignment in the spinal column causing biomechanical malfunction. These misalignments in the spine can irritate nerve roots and the blood vessels that branch off from the spinal cord between each of the vertebrae. These irritations translate into pain and dysfunction of the muscles, lymphatic and organ tissue, as well as erroneous messages being sent back and forth between the nerves and the brain.
Subluxation can be caused by many things that range from a fall, an injury, a sudden jar, or trauma. Other causes include sleeping funny, poor posture, work hazards, lifting incorrectly, obesity, lack of exercise, and stress.
