Winter’s Just around the Corner

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 28 2009 | Chiropractic Care

With the seasons changing it is important to keep a constant look out for ice. Just today the Deseret News reported 6 accidents on a 3 mile stretch within 3 hours of each other. Salt Lake County Sherriff Lt. Jason says, “The problem is the weather, people are just driving too fast and can’t see icy patches.”

The best way to treat an injury is to keep it from happening. So, we have 10 Safety tips we would like to offer to help keep you safe.

1.  Check to make sure that you have adequate snow traction

2. Replace windshield wiper blades if necessary

3. Run the air conditioner to remove condensation and frost from window

4. Check your lights

5. Learn how to most effectively use your brakes before an emergency

6. Watch carefully for black ice

7. Remember the tough spots so you can change your course if necessary

8. If a slick section in a turn causes your front tires to lose grip don’t keep turning the wheel

9. Make sure that your back tires have as much tread as your front tires

10. All wheel drive and electronic stability control can get you into trouble by offering a false sense of security. Don’t let these trick you into overestimating the available traction.

How to reduce your child’s risk of injury by 45%

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 26 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many parents that come into our clinic often say they can deal with their injuries but they want to know if we have any suggestions on how to protect their small children from car accident injuries. The CBS News recently published an article about child car safety. They report that the results of new data analysis show that children in belt-positioning booster seats were 45 percent less likely to sustain injuries in a crash than were children using only standard vehicle seat belts.

The study spanned about 35,000 car accidents where one or more children were injured. Children in side-impact crashes benefited most when booster seats were used: risk of injury was reduced 68 percent for near-side impacts, and 82% for far-side impacts. Head injuries accounted for approximately 65 percent of all injuries, regardless of the type of restraint used. Injured children in booster seats most commonly received face and lower extremity injuries (9 percent and 8 percent, respectively), with a notable absence of abdominal injuries. (Read More)

Why see a Chiropractor Instead of a Physical Therapist

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Oct 05 2009 | Car Accident Doctor, Utah Chiropractic|American Fork

Physical therapy focuses on the strengthening of your muscles. If your have been in a automobile accident you would want to make sure that the bones and discs of your spine are in place before you begin to build muscle around them. As you may already know the body naturally heals itself.  The body heals itself because it has direct communication with with tissue, cells, muscles, and organs throughout the body. Messages are communicated back and forth through the central nervous system.  If that communication pathway is disrupted the body will cease to perform the way it was intended too.

You may be experiencing a very slow recovery from your accident but, not feel pain in your back.  Most of our patients don’t realize how important the health of their spine is to their overall wellness.  Chiropractic care along with massage therapy will first and foremost ensure that your back problems are gone before building more muscles around your spine to guarantee you the best health possible.

Pleasant Grove Auto Injury Doctor, Nate Miller D.C. of the Spinal Rehab of North County, focuses on the complete rahabilitation of your spine.  To get a free massage and consultation contact us today.
