Texting and Driving Coming to a Hault

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Sep 09 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Texting and driving are becoming a discussion that is sweeping the country. The Harvard Crimson Newspaper, reports that at the beginning of this year there were 6 states that had passed anti-texting laws that make illegal sending or receiving text messages while driving. That number is now up to 18 states that have passed anti-texting legislation.

Studies show that texting makes driving signficantly more dangerous. Virginia Tech says that texting while driving increases accident possibility by 23 times. Car and Drivers Magazine did a study that showed driver reaction time of one who is texting to be much slower than someone driving under the influence of alcohol.

The recent Utah legistlation passed last month banning texting messaging while driving says Being caught texting and driving could get you up to 3 months in prison. The penalty for causing an accident while texting could land you far worse, a possible 15 years in prison.

How Serious Is Whiplash?

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Sep 07 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many of our patients underestimate the seriousness of whiplash. Whiplash can be caused by a couple of things but the most prevalent cause we see is car accidents.  When two cars collide the impact of the collision forces the neck either backwards or forwards and overextends the neck.  As the neck comes back into normal position the muscles immediately stiffen in order to keep better balance of the head.

Whiplash can damage or tear neck muscles and bones leading to neurological problems, and bone fractures or dislocations.  Many people assume that the pain they experience anywhere in their body is not directly related to the accident, that it may be caused from anxiety, adrenaline, intense crying, and stress caused by the accident. However it is important to realize that the spine is the place that houses your central nervous system. Due to this fact if there is damage to the nervous system due to over extension of the neck, the injury could be manifesting itself in the form of pain elsewhere in your body.

Whiplash injuries are feasible at 5 mph.  This is a real injury and symptoms and begin to manifest themselves from a few hours after the accident to months after.  If you or a loved has been in a car accident and suspect a whiplash injury, don’t wait until the situation becomes very aggravated to seek help.  Pleasant Grove auto injury doctor, Nate Miller, specializes in working with injuries incurred through car accidents.  For a free  same day massage and consultation call (801) 492-9300.

Medical help when you need it most!

Posted by Dr. Nate Miller on Sep 05 2009 | Chiropractic Care

Many people find themselves in a car accident with serious injuries and wonder how they are going to pay for the medical care they need.  What many people don’t know is that Utah is a “no fault” state.  “No fault” means that every driver on the road is required to carry insurance that covers your medical treatment even if you caused the accident.  This insurance is called PIP insurance or Personal Injury Protection Insurance.

“No Fault” was passed into Utah law because to often accident victims were waiting for the faulted drivers insurance to accept liability to begin treatment.  Accident injuries are too serious to wait for insurance bureaucracy to give the o.k. In order to provide means for immediate medical treatment all auto insurance companies are required to have PIP Insurance that covers a minimum of $3,000 medical care.

Worried about soaring premiums? Rest at ease!  The faulted drivers insurance, upon accepting liability, will reimburse the costs incurred by your insurance from your injuries and premiums will remain unaffected.

If you or a loved one has sustained injuries in a car accident don’t wait any longer to get the medical help you need. Dr. Nate Miller, of Spinal Rehab of North County, is an experienced in how to best help accident victims get back to where they were before the accident.  Call today to get a free massage and consultation.
